Analysis Of The Movie Whip It - 1213 Words

Are you ready for the whip? Whip It is a movie full of teenage rebellion, hormones and adrenaline. The movie portrays Bliss Cavendar also known as â€Å"Babe Ruthless† (Ellen Page) as a teen from a small town, Bodean, Texas who is being primed to crowned in the biggest beauty pageant in her area, a position that her mother (Marcia Gay Harden) once held as a teenager. Despite her mother’s southern homemaker ideals and dreams Bliss desires to live her life on the wild side, on roller skates. This is a classic tale of a teenager finding her own despite the wishes of her parents. and despite their opinions, triumphs through determination. The movie, Whip It is set in the rural town of Bodean, Texas and features the life of the Cavendar family, a†¦show more content†¦Bliss begins to find her old Barbie skates from childhood and begins to train and skate to prime up to become one of her new heroes, a roller derby girl. Bliss then comes up with a plan to ride into Au stin on a Senior Citizen’s bingo transport bus to get to tryouts and through her hard work and determination lands herself a spot on the Hurl Scouts squad and is now referred to as, â€Å"Babe Ruthless†. Her team congratulates her by giving her a pair of green fishnets and mouth guard, because as Maggie Mayhem stated, â€Å"safety is sexy†. Meanwhile, and despite her parents’ awareness of her new extracurricular sporting activities, Bliss works as a waitress by day at the local BBQ restaurant, The Oink Joint wearing a modest apron adorned with ruffles, and a pigs ears and face and by night she continues to sneak off to Austin to practice for upcoming bouts and to party with her new friends where her attire is more edgy and raunchy. It is during one of the parties that she attends with her team that she starts to realize that the derby girl she first admired on the bout advertisement, Iron Maven (Juliette Lewis) has an issue with her, Maven is a tough as n ails skater, whose posture and attitude is rigid and defensive. Maven is now the nemesis to Bliss and the fire that fuels her to tear it up on the banked tracks of the rink during the bout against The Holy Rollers.
